Cinepak

Developed by Apple and SuperMac Technologies, Cinepak can compress video files to 1/25th their original size. While the codec (compressor/decompressor) was originally developed to play QuickTime movies off CD-ROMs, it is now also widely used to shrink QuickTime and AVI movies for transfer over the Internet. It's even built in to Windows 95.
