flat shading

In 3D graphics, the polygons that make up the pictures you see need to be colored; otherwise they'd be wireframes like those on targeting computers in Star Wars. The simplest kind of shading is flat shading, which simply fills the polygons with one color. Flat shading is not acceptable for 3D gaming, so be wary of benchmark ratings that use it.
