multiscanning

Multiscanning describes a type of computer monitor that adjusts itself to accommodate signals from different classes of video boards. Unless your monitor's documentation lists multiscanning as a feature, you need to be careful to ensure that the monitor can handle any resolutions and refresh rates that your video board might support (that is, anything higher than 640 by 480 pixels). Any monitor labeled VGA is by definition not a multiscanning device.
